Our Experience in Miami

Hello Reader,

This last week was a whirlwind. We were in Miami before and after our Virgin Voyages cruise. We spent time before the cruise, in South Beach near the art deco district. We stayed at Royal Palm Hotel before the cruise and spend our last night in Miami at The Cadillac Hotel and Beach Club.

Royal Palm Hotel - South Beach

The Royal Palm Hotel is located directly on Miami Beach. You walk out the back gate of the hotel and you are directly on the beach. The lobby of the hotel has a 1920s vibe to it. There is a lot of history to the hotel and they have floor to ceiling wall posters outlining their unique history. There are plenty of great eateries and stores within walking distance from the hotel. One that we walked to was Le Sandwicherie. They have multiple locations; we visited the South Beach location. The sandwiches were great. One other awesome eatery is located in Little Havana, Versailles Cuban Restaurant. I know the name does not match but the food is authentic and they have been in business since the 60's. If you go, save room for the cuban bakery next door!!

The room was nicely appointed and comfortable for a good night's sleep. We had an ocean view although there were some better rooms for a direct view. We visited several hotels in different areas of Miami. Coral Gables, Brickell, Downtown, and Miami Beach, we know all the great spots to send you for any Miami Cruise.

Cadillac Hotel and Beach Club

After our cruise we stayed further north on Miami Beach at the Cadillac Hotel and Beach Club. This hotel is gorgeous! The pool area had a great Miami Vibe and although further north than the Royal Palm it is only 20 minutes from the airport and about 25 minutes from the Port of Miami. Upon arrival we received our welcome drinks, and we checked in early. They have a general pool and an adult only pool. This hotel is also directly on the beach and they have a great outside restaurant you go through to get to the beach. Check out these pictures.

The area around The Cadillac Hotel and Beach Club has some great shopping and some wonderful eateries. This area is north of the Art Deco district, the architecture is more modern, and it is a very clean area. We definitely felt very safe walking around and exploring.

We recommend:

When getting around Miami try to use a ride share service like Lyft or Uber. We almost exclusively used Lyft to get around. The prices were cheaper than Uber every time I checked. We do not recommend using the Yellow Taxi service in Miami. We took one from the port and paid almost three times the cost of Lyft. On another note when we arrived at our destination the driver wanted cash and his credit card processing machine conveniently failed.

During my time in Miami, I used Lyft about 7 times for rides around the city. Every time it was a pleasant experience. Being able to handle all payments in the app was great as well as adding a tip in the app. The only thing I could complain about is that 95% of our Lyft drivers spoke very little English. I hate getting in someone's car and not being able to converse. This did not mean I felt unsafe at all, just letting you know that knowing/speaking spanish would be very helpful in Miami.

Travel the World Insured

Hello Reader, The absolute top thing we did to save our customers money..... Travel Insurance....yep, really... Last year we saw 4 cruises get cancelled and 1 family trip for 3 families totaling 11 people cancelled. These clients we were able to help get 100% of their trip costs refunded. I will tell you my heart sank each time I was told of the cancellations. They were all for unforeseen medical reasons : Two sisters cruising for the first time. 4 weeks before their trip, their mother has a...

Hello Reader, A funny thing happened to me on my last cruise. Short story is they found a bullet in my backpack. A bullet keychain I have travelled with my work backpack in the past and had no problems making it through security. Recently I put that keychain above in my backpack for the office and totally forgot to remove it for the cruise. At the terminal I am in line and my backpack enters the machine. The security agent stops the machine and looks at me. She repositions my backpack and...
